Weimar Institute is home to students, faculty, and staff from various countries and diverse cultures. This means there are always fascinating life stories, experiences and perspectives to learn from and to share. Today’s focus is on Rita Germain, one of our newest college faculty members.
What are your career experiences?
I am currently a faculty member of the nursing department at Weimar Institute. I have been a nurse for 13 years and a Family Nurse Practitioner for seven years. I have been teaching nursing students since 2013 and it has been a joy. Most of my clinical experience has been in providing primary care in patients’ homes and community-based clinics. I have had many opportunities to pray with my patients, share the gospel, and teach them the laws of health. Looking back, I could not have chosen a better field.
Why did you come to Weimar Institute?
I came to Weimar because I was looking for a place to continue my desire to serve God in my career. Weimar’s mission is to “heal a hurting world” and I can truly identify with that. For many years, I have been involved in youth ministries because I believe that we have a special work to do in these last days. Ellen White states, “With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Savior might be carried to the whole world!”—Education, 271. At Weimar Institute, I hope to be able to lead young people to know Christ better and find their God-given purpose in nursing.
What do you enjoy about teaching?
I enjoy the students and their commitment to live for Christ. I love interacting with them and learning their perspective on life. I love helping them better understand the content of the subject matter that I am teaching, as well as its connection to the Bible and their personal lives.
What are some unique things about you?
I enjoy playing the clarinet. I have been playing since middle school. I have a very active young daughter who keeps me running. I love animals; I care for a 15-year old cat named Prince. I also enjoy gardening.
