Student Success Center Services

The Office of Student Services exists to meet student needs and help them navigate these exciting college years by providing a supportive and nurturing campus environment. Campus facilities and programs are available to foster student learning and success while providing opportunities and resources for the development of academic, social, and spiritual growth. Under the Director of Student Services, this office also seeks to develop individual leadership skills in students as they embrace the designed curriculum, social programs, and sponsorship opportunities offered to teach them how to “heal a hurting world”.

Student Skills

The Student Success Department seeks to help students improve their time management, test taking, note taking, and retention skills. Mrs. Maryann Krueger has experience in encouraging students who are struggling in these areas, and will help each willing student learn or improve any of these skills.

Academic Assistance

Student Success is also responsible for making tutoring available to each student who needs help. Most tutors at Weimar Institute work part-time along with their normal load of classes. They are happy to help other students understand their coursework, for most tutors have already taken the class they intend to tutor before they apply for the job.

In addition to tutors who help out with specific subjects, Student Success recruits students with good writing skills to hold a writing lab at regular times. Because most teachers will assign papers and other writing assignments at some point, students have a recourse, someone who can look over their writing, give tips, and make suggestions. Whether they are trying to tie a multifaceted final Leadership portfolio together or whether they are trying to format a tedious Biology lab report, students who bring their writing to the writing lab find help and find an insightful second look at their work.

Career Coaching

Because college students often wonder what career is best for them, Student Success helps students discover which career is best suited to their unique strengths and abilities by offering strengths-testing and career advising. When successful professionals look back at their past career choices, they often find that practical shadowing opportunities made their decisions much easier and more straightforward. Student Success puts undecided students and experienced professionals together in the workplace to reveal what professions are best for each student. For those students who are nearing the end of their studies at Weimar Institute, Student Success guides students in the selection of a graduate degree program, or helps them pursue leads for their first job.

Disability Services

Many times when a disabled person seeks to obtain a post-secondary degree, teachers and faculty wish to support their efforts, but may not know how. Disabled Services at Student Success works with teachers and students to promote understanding and facilitate learning within the constraints of the student’s disability. Dyslexic students may need proctors for extended exam times, students with manual disabilities may need help typing out their academic papers, and disabled students experiencing other unforeseen difficulties may need the energetic, understanding assistance of a Student Success representative. Though not necessarily disabled, international students who speak English as a second or third language often take longer to understand and complete their school work. Student success is responsible for monitoring each student’s progress and providing remedial intervention where necessary.
