“Why They Did That” is a new podcast created by Weimar College students Christian Freed & Dean Cullinane. The podcast was born from the students’ desire to share the gospel in ways that are relatively untouched by the Adventist Church. Work on the project started after the Weimar College Graduation ceremony in May of 2018, and the show was eventually launched on August 31st. Episodes are released every 2nd Friday of the month and focus on particular Bible characters in the Old Testament and how their stories are both relevant and practical to the modern-day Christian.
The first episode asked the question, “Why Do Good People Suffer?” using the book of Job as the foundation for the answer. This topic was later revisited in Episode 4—both episodes are presented by Weimar College English Professor, Dr. Karl Wilcox. In episode 2, Narlon Edwards looked at Daniel’s three friends, and how Daniel’s influence in Chapters 1 & 2 prepared them for their own trial in Chapter 3. The third episode, presented by Weimar’s associate pastor and choir director, Erwin Nanasi, looks at the story of David and shows how music can be used to help change the heart. The latest episode, to be released on Friday, October 26, is a special testimony episode featuring Weimar’s new religion professor, Dr. Phodidas Ndamyumugabe.
The podcast has been listened to in over 75 countries, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. So far, the episodes are planned up until July 2019 and the students are hoping it will only continue to grow from here. You can find the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and various other podcast-platforms, as well on social media sites such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
